SIGNING UP
Please register using your character's first, or first and last name. Example: john, johndoe. You should NOT put numbers in your username. Even though you change it afterward, it doesn't look as pretty on your profile page, and when people PM you, they may get confused. Keep it simple, stupid.
After you've registered, the first thing you should do is go into your own profile and edit your display name to look nice. Example: John Doe. If you haven't decided on a last name yet, that's fine; you may put simply "John". Yes, the capital letters are important. It's proper grammar, and we're writers for god's sakes.
DO NOT PUT NUMBERS IN YOUR NAME! If you're a resident, the site staff will do that for you after they have reviewed your app. If you want a certain number, there is a portion on the application where you may request it.
APPLYING
The apps are insanely and deliciously short, but because of this, detail and individuality are crucial. Also, please put the title of your app in all caps.
Residents: Yes, we understand that the scientists think of residents as mindless drones of labrats, but that's not the case. Every labrat is one-of-a-kind. (Designer labrats! Create your own!) So please, strive for originality!
IC Staff: If you want to play a staff, that's great! While we allow original staff, canons are much more appreciated. There's a lot of room for flexibility with many of the canons, so again, use that amazing creativity of yours and blow us away! If you make an original staff, it better be frighteningly unique, because why else would you need to veer from the canon list?
POSTING
The minimum word count is 400 words. It's understood that some people have trouble reaching this goal on a good day, while others haven't written a post that short in years. That's okay! We're open to anyone who thinks they can meet that post requirement. It's all in good fun, anyway.
As a general rule, try to match the post length of the person you're posting for. I'm sure we all know how frustrating it is to push out that 1000wd post, and then get a bare-minimum post in return. It sucks. Try to get within 50-100 words of the post before yours, okay?
Obviously, no godmodding/powerplaying/any of that other ridiculous stuff. It really should go without saying by now that you control only your character, and that your character is fallible. This is a given.
CONTENT
Crazy things happen at Molonov Laboratories, on both sides of the raunchy spectrum.
Obviously, some of the reactions to the "treatment" can get pretty terrible, and you are welcome (and encouraged) to play out these reactions in all their disgusting, vomit-inducing, gory details. As a result, this site is not for the queasy! If you have a weak stomach, either steer clear of those threads, or just don't join. That sounds harsh, I know, but Mia doesn't want to get a hundred complaints in her PMbox everyday about how disgusting so-and-so is being in their posts. It's allowed, like it or leave.
On the other hand, things of a sexual nature are allowed on the site as well. The scientists don't care at all what goes on between the residents, and sometimes they even indulge themselves in a few fantasies of their own, with coworkers and sometimes with residents. But, this site is not a place for you to get off on your own smut. Unlike above, we don't want all the graphic details. Use your better judgement on when to cut to black. By the way, the supersecret passphrase is 'life is but a nightmare'.
PLAY-BYS & GRAPHICS
Play-bys can be anyone whose name can be typed into Google and actually have images show up. Movie stars, models, athletes, myspace scene-queens, whatever. Just as long as you keep in mind that these people aren't in a glamourous place. Bright and colorful might not be your best choice when trying to portray a person who is living each day, scared out of their mind that they might die. (Also, Russian play-bys are love!)
Avatars/icons are mandatory. No larger than 100px across, please. Also, don't use the proboards resizer, as it doesn't always work. If you need to resize your avvie, Photobucket, Tinypic, and Picnik all have easy-to-use resizers, or you can ask someone on the site.
Signature graphics are not mandatory, but they are highly encouraged and appreciated. And again, bright and sunny and cheerful really shouldn't be the focus.
C-BOX AND OOC BOARDS
Be friendly, be sociable, and have fun.
Friendly means keeping the drama off the site. We're all capable of maturity, and while we don't condone arguments, if you absolutely MUST speak your mind, take it to PMs, please. The last thing people want to see is everyone else trying to act hardcore with the keyboard.
Sociable means... talk it up! Don't be shy! (Granted, Mia tends to be the biggest offender when it comes to shyness on other sites. =P) The best part of any roleplaying site is the people! Welcome the guests, chat it up with your fellow members, new and old alike. Sociable also means plotting! (Best part, yes?!) Don't be afraid to ask for a position to be filled, or to fill someone's open position in a plot.
HAVE FUN! That's what it's all about. We're all here to have fun. So have fun, and don't ruin anyone else's fun, or you just might get a beatin---erm, lecture, from Mia!
